Physical Examination
An important part of the diagnosis is physical examination. The physician feels with his/her hands the size and location of the uterus as well as consistency and shape. The ovaries can also be examined for cysts and tumors. Also important to note is discomfort present in some locations during the exam. Prior to the examination, the physician may inquire about other symptoms such as urinary frequency or urgency, constipation or back pain.
