The Mehra family owns the East India Company, a local restaurantknown for its authentic Indian food and atmosphere. Every August, the restaurant hosts an evening of live jazz, food, and wine tasting known as the Masala Mixer.

For the next five years, all proceeds from this annual event will be donated to the Victoria General Hospital in support of the new Buhler Cancer Centre. In 2008, the Masala Mixer raised almost $10,000.

There are two East India Company locations: one in Ottawa and one in Winnipeg. The Winnipeg location has been in operation for 32 years and was recently ranked as one of the top 100 restaurants in Canada. The restaurants are known not only for the high quality of food and service provided, but also for the atmosphere created through authentic Indian artwork ranging from 100 to 500 years old displayed throughout both locations.
