"Whyte Ridge is a caring and compassionate community and we are fortunate to be able to support the Vic's vision through 'Run at the Ridge'. This event is an excellent opportunity for families to be active together and contribute to a worthwhile cause."
- Sue Zajac, Run at the Ridge committee member
Run at the Ridge is an annual community event which provides an opportunity for families and individuals to particiapte in a number of fun runs. Their mission is to promote active lifestyles and raise money for local schools and community initiatives.
Every May, more than 1,000 people lace up their runners to take part in this event and a portion of the proceeds are donated to the Vic. In 2008, the group raised nearly $10,000 in support of the Darlene Williams Comfort Room.
Darlene Williams was a young mother who, knowing she was losing her battle with cancer, wanted to continue to help others and make a difference. Her vision was to create a comfort room at the Vic for cancer patients and their families to relax, share a family meal, and visit in a home-like setting. After Darlene's death, her family and friends started a fund to keep Darlene's legacy alive. With the help of her friends, family, and supporters, Darlene's vision is becoming a reality! Construction of the Darlene Williams Comfort Room will happen in 2009.
If you would like to support Darlene's vision, please call 477-3513.
