"Oakley Optical is pleased to support the VGH Foundation's efforts to create the Darlene Williams Comfort Room. Our family has been touched by cancer, so this cause is very close to our hearts. We hope this new room will bring comfort to families during a difficult time."
-Randy Hosegood, Oakley Optical
Book your eye appointment with Oakley Optical! For the second year in a row, they will be donating a portion of the proceeds from all prescription eyewear purchases to the VGH Foundation in September and October. Randy Hosegood and his brothers grew up in Fort Garry and are all Oakley Optical owners. The stores raised almost $1,000 in the summer of 2008 in support of the Darlene Williams Comfort Room.
Darlene Williams was a young mother who, knowing she was losing her battle with cancer, wanted to continue to help others and make a difference. Her vision was to create a comfort room at the Vic for cancer patients and their families to relax, share a family meal, and visit in a home-like setting. After Darlene's death, her family and friends started a fund to keep Darlene's legacy alive. With the help of her friends, family, and supporters, Darlene's vision is becoming a reality! Construction on the Darlene Williams Comfort Room will happen in 2009.
