CONSTRUCTION NOW UNDERWAY!

The Vic operates one of Manitoba’s busiest Emergency Departments, providing care to about 30,000 people each year, despite a serious shortage of treatment space.

While initial plans for the Vic redevelopment called for minor renovations to the existing Emergency Department, external pressures - including the requirement for more advanced infection control equipment and procedures and unpredented growth in South Winnipeg - soon forced a major change in plans.

Bigger . . .

Our new Emergency Centre will see the department more than double in size.  Improvements will help us provide rapid care, decrease waiting times, and provide patients with first-class treatment in an environment that ensures greater privacy, security, and comfort.

The new Emergency Centre will feature modern facilities and strategically designed spaces.  A reassessment unit for patients who require additional monitoring, a negative pressure isolation room, state-of-the-art resuscitation rooms, a three-bay ambulance garage, and decontamination area will allow medical personnel to safely treat patients and provide compassionate care in the most efficient and effective way possible.

. . . and Better

The new Emergency Centre will also feature two distinct treatment areas – one for those requiring acute emergency care and a separate treatment area for those who require urgent care for minor injuries. This will maximize care for those with the most serious health issues and minimize wait times.

Construction of the new Emergency Centre is now underway is expected to be complete in two years.
