Lifeline At Work

“I knew I could depend on Lifeline”

When 96-year-old Wilhelmina Klimpke’s husband Carl came home and announced he was having a heart attack, she was forced to act quickly.

“I didn’t have time to think, just act,” said Wilhelmina. “I knew I had to act in a hurry and that every minute counted. I knew I could depend on Lifeline, so I pushed the button on my neck.”

Victoria Lifeline provides 24-hour personalized monitoring and support services enabling older adults to live independently. Subscribers like Carl and Wilhelmina can summon the appropriate help at the push of a button. A specialized pendant or wrist-strap allows subscribers to instantly connect with caring and knowledgeable Lifeline monitors. This connection is made possible by a highly sensitive communicator installed in the subscriber’s home.

Wilhelmina credits Victoria Lifeline with helping to save her husband’s life. She says the service has given her peace of mind.

“It has given me a feeling of safety and security. I know the first thing they will do is get in touch with the people who mean the most to me,” said Wilhelmina, who was surprised when her daughter and son-in-law arrived at the hospital shortly after Carl was admitted, having been called by Lifeline. “It was such a comfort to have them there when Carl had his heart attack.”

I was doubtful that wearing this necklace was going to help me much. After a few mornings of checking-in, I was late calling in by about 12 minutes. I was really surprised when they called me. It really made me think that this little necklace meant I wasn't alone after all. Many times when I feel uneasy and really need someone to calm me down I have only to feel my neck, making sure the necklace is there and I can sit down calmly until the feeling disappears instead of getting upset because I'm alone. I can now sleep peacefully at night because I know that I have help waiting if needed. I sincerely thank one and all for the kindness I have received so far. I don't feel the emptiness of living alone.

Mom had to use her Victoria Lifeline yesterday evening. She had a fall but was not hurt. Just wanted to let you know that it worked well. B. is the first one to be called and he and I were there in good time. Mom was in good humour.

Victoria Lifeline was great. They kept in contact with her to let her know they had contacted us and we were on our way. They called when we were expected to arrive to follow up and ensure no other help was needed. Mom was totally fine, did not even seem to have a bruised ego.

Thought I would pass this on as I know you were a part of the "talking into" phase...she now thinks Victoria Lifeline is the greatest.

Daughter of Winnipeg subscriber in a note to her sister

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

This year has been a very trying one as my elderly father became ill and was in and out of hospital. We knew we must have Victoria Lifeline.

[Three days after it was installed] I had a telephone call from Victoria Lifeline [in the middle of the night].  I flew into my clothing and drove quickly to attend to my Father who had fallen by the door sill of the bathroom in his home.  He was able to press the Lifeline button to alert your staff.  I had no sooner arrived, than his telephone rang [asking if an ambulance was required].

In retrospect, I would have been filled with remorse had my Father not had his button necklet on the day he fell. The thought of him having to have spent hours in that position would have remained with me forever. This letter is to thank you for providing such an efficient service to Winnipeg. Our dealings with your staff in whatever capacity, whether in conversation over the unit, by telephone, or in person have been excellent. I highly recommend this service.

On behalf of my sisters, bless you all at Victoria Lifeline.

Sincerely,

- G.S.
