How You Can Help

"My girls were both born at the Vic. I have welcomed people into the world and said goodbye to them at this hospital. It has been a big part of my life and my family's life for many years."

- Maureen Jay, pictured with her daughters Zoe (left) and Rachel Goldman (right), has left

a gift to the Vic in her will. Her first experience at the Vicwas a a candy striper in 1972.

A bequest is a gift of property by means of a will.

Charitable bequests can provide substantial income tax relief: your estate will receive a tax receipt for the amount of the gift (or the fair market value of the gifted property), which could reduce the tax it needs to pay and thus preserve more of your legacy for your loved ones and other favourite causes.

Bequests can take many forms, including:

  • a lump sum of money
  • a gift of securities
  • real estate
  • personal property such as a work of art
  • a named percentage or portion of your estate
  • a percentage of estate residue

With any of these types of bequests, you can direct your gift to the general purposes of the Victoria General Hospital Foundation (an unrestricted gift) or to a specific fund of the Foundation (a restricted gift).

For more information about making a bequest, please contact Rena Molinari, Major Gifts/Planned Giving Officer, at

(204) 477-3126 or by e-mail at rmolinari@vgh.mb.ca.
