Darlene Williams Comfort Room

December 2010

The Darlene Williams Comfort Room opened in December 2010 and allows for palliative and critical care patients to visit with their loved ones in a warm and reflective setting. Families can watch a movie, play a game, or have a home-cooked meal together.

Research shows that a comfortable environment, along with the support of friends and family, plays a vital role in a patient's well-being. The Darlene Williams Comfort Room allows palliative and critical care patients to visit with loved ones in a home-like setting.

The room was inspired by Darlene Williams, who lost her battle with cancer in 2006. Williams spent her last two months at the Victoria General Hospital and family visits took place in a room that had minimal space and lacked comfortable seating. Williams's wish was to be remembered as someone who made a difference, and so the vision for the Darlene Williams Comfort Room was born.

Williams's family, friends, and community have raised $103,000 for the room to date.

The room was used for the first time on January 17, 2011.
